SXSW!! - LOCAL FAVORITE GUILLA ANNOUNCES SXSW PERFORMANCE, SAYS “PIT STOP EN ROUTE TO SATURN.” ALL THE DETAILS.

Houston, Texas – (February 29, 2016) The music portion of Austin's annual music and technology conference, South by South West, is set to kick off on March 15th and once again, they have a formidable lineup that includes everyone from Country Legend Loretta Lynn to Grammy Award winning singer Estelle.

Joining this year’s legion of rising artists is Houston favorite, Guilla – described as a musical tastemaker with a penchant for channeling sophisticated and high energy sets. Guilla received overwhelming response as a featured artist in last year’s Free Press Summer Fest, alongside associated acts The Suffers, Gio Chamba, and Catch Fever. His influences run the gamut – ranging from Björk to Cam’ron to cult movie classics like The Fifth Element and Samurai X.

“I am very interested in the unknown, the search for enlightenment and the challenge that it brings. I believe there are infinite dimensions and that in another universe, South by South West is merely a pit stop on the way to Saturn,” said Guilla. “And why not? Music has no boundaries,” he continued.

Why You Should Pay Attention: Guilla is part of a generation of producers/rappers connecting the dots between experimental, alternative, and trip-hop: from Guilla’s critically-acclaimed Rap,Trap, and Drums to the highly anticipated Children of the Sun, recorded between Home School Studios and the legendary Sugar Hill Studios (out April 12) . Sending listeners into a trance is exactly what Guilla intends to do with undogmatic and adept lyricism and textured instrumentals.

Invigoratingly fresh, with soul-shaking percussions, Guilla is one artist you’ll want to see in action.  Catch him on Thursday, March 17th at SXSW. For tickets or more information, visit www.sxsw.com.

More Booze for your Buck: Shenanigans Irish Pub

It's obvious that I love a bargain. What might not be obvious is that I'm originally from Boston (Go Patriots, Celtics, Red Sox, Bruins!). The Irish population in Boston probably only comes in 2nd to the actual country of Ireland. Consequently, there are Irish pubs EVERYWHERE. Not so much in the DC area so it's nice to know that there's somewhere I can go to get a little feel of my home city. On top of that, Shenanigans Irish Pub has got a bargain for you beloveds. On Fridays from 9pm-11pm for a flat cost of $10, you can drink to your heart's content. Again: $10 ALL YOU CAN DRINK.
Unfortunately I won't be able to participate due to my self imposed open bar challenge but go check it out and tell me how you like it. Shenanigans Irish Pub is located at 2450 18th street NW between Columbia Rd. and Adams Mill Rd. in the Adams Morgan neighborhood.

Open Bar Challenge

So on New Year's Day I was thinking about what I wanted to do differently for the new year. One thing I want to do is take up gardening as a new hobby. And since I was adding something I thought that I should take away something. For some strange reason I decided I wasn't going to drink for the entirety of 2016. Well, 7 days into the new year and I'm not so sure that was a realistic thing for me. But I thought of a way I could semi keep it up while having fun in my own weird, nerd brain way. For the entirety of 2016, all my drinks are going to come from open bars. I'm not going to spend any money (excluding tip*) on alcohol in 2016. I think it's going to be interesting and funny. I'm pretty excited. I'll post updates periodically. Let me know if you want to join in!

*TIP YOUR BARTENDER. Even on the free drinks. I usually tip about $1 per drink at open bars.

A Deal and a Steal: Club Mansion

It's been pretty brick outside for the last couple of days but one cannot let the weather stop one from getting it in. And that's exactly what you'll be able to do this Friday at Club Mansion for the low-low. They will be hosting an event called Sip and Crank. This name sounds like the embodiment of the classy ratchetry that I love so much...like an event where you'd hit the Dab in a 3 piece suit or cocktail dress. There are going to be some amazing deals ($5 patron margaritas til midnight) and even some free booze (complimentary wine by the glass from 9-12). Entry is free for the ladies all night and free for the gentlemen from 9-11 if you text "CRANK" to 41411.
Club Mansion is located at 1720 I st. NW; right across the street from the Farragut West Metro station and next to Eden. If you like the big club experience this is probably going to be right up your alley.
