I might be out of town but I'm still helping you look out for your wallet. See how much I love you? 😁 If you want to start ringing in the new year early, head to sudhouse at 1340 U St. NW on New Year's Eve. Family Friendly: Kwanzaa Fest DC
Merry Christmas! The presents are all opened, Christmas dinner is over so you've got leftovers for days, and the kids stopped playing with all those gifts you went into debt for after 45 minutes. There will be art exhibits, a concert, and a youth kickback lounge that includes a film festival. This event is going to be a great way to entertain the entire family while learning about different ways people celebrate the holiday season.
Kwanzaa Fest starts at 1pm and is totally FREE to the public. The concert portion starts at 9pm. It is taking place at 3804-3808 34th St., Mt. Rainier, MD 20712. Enjoy!

Don't judge me...It's a good deal ;-)
Sometimes you find deals in unlikely places; Stadium is one of those places. If you don't know, Stadium is a very well known gentleman's club in DC. And while one may want to go to take in the bevy of beauties that perform there, they also provide great drink specials. They are as follows:
* $2 Tuesdays: Pretty self-explanatory. Drinks are $2. All. Night.
* Triple Threat Thursdays: $3 drinks and 50 cent wings
* Hangover Happy Hour Fridays: OPEN BAR from 6pm-9pm
* They are also hosting an amateur night on January 20 where there will be open bar for ladies from 6pm-9pm.
Stadium is located at 2127 Queens Chapel Road NE. Go get yourself some titties and tequila! lol

Open Bar Alert: Holiday Edition
The holiday rush is over and you're ready to wind down. But your bank account and credit card limits are on life support. If you're a VH1 reality show junkie, this event is right up your alley. Donna M from Black Ink Crew will be hosting a holiday party this Saturday at Layla Lounge. Doors open at 9pm, there will be open bar until 11pm, and entry is free until midnight (ladies free all night). Layla Lounge is located at 501 Morse St. NE. The 90 bus passes right by it and it is about a 10 minute walk from the NoMa-Gallaudet metro station. I personally have not been to this venue but who wouldn't want open bar on a holiday weekend? Go get yourself some free post Christmas cheer at Layla Lounge!

Don't let NYE drain your funds! (New York)
New year, new you...but that salary hasn't changed. You want to get all dressed up and go out to party and watch the ball drop but you don't want to have to choose between rent and groceries to do it. Don't worry, I've got you.
I'm a podcast junkie. One of my favorite ones is called 2 Guys and a Girl and they are having a FREE New Year's Eve party in Brooklyn. Most of the drinks are going to be around $10 which is a steal for New York (I'm currently cringing remembering my $45 tab the last time I went to New York and only had 3 gat damn drinks!). The venue is called Breukelen (pronounced Brooklyn) Brasserie and the address is 710 Nostrand Ave. I'm gonna go as long as one of my friends has a couch I can crash on because hotels are going to be on some other stuff with their rates.
Also give the 2 Guys and a Girl podcast a listen. You can find it on iTunes or SoundCloud. They are HILARIOUS!
***I couldn't find a real photo of the place so...go with God and here's the website. Love ya!***

You already know I love budget friendly drinks. But pair it with glorious trap music? Heaven! This is exactly what Liv Nightclub does at their monthly Grillz event. Starting at 10pm you can get your fill of the latest and greatest of trap excellence. Hot Boyz, Uncle Luke, Trick Daddy, Trina, Migos, Future, Gucci...all of your favorites are in attendance. On top of this bevy of southern hits, drinks are only $1 for the first hour. There is one stipulation to getting in on the fun however, you have to register here. Not a bad trade off for what is sure to be a night of good, gritty, sweaty, dancing fun.You will work off those drink calories after approximately 2.5 songs
Liv Nightclub is located at 2001 11th Street NW, right at the corner of 11th st. and U st. It is easily accessible by the Yellow/Green line (U Street/Cardozo stop, exit from the 10th st. side).

Open Bar Alert (Ladies only): Eden Lounge
Finally found a Wednesday night open bar! Tonight is the inaugural night for #skybarwednesdays at Eden Lounge. Every Wednesday, ladies get free admission and open bar until MIDNIGHT! Doors open at 10pm. I'm not usually a fan of big trendy clubs but for a 2 hour open bar...I'm there, lol. Eden is located at 1716 I St. NW; across the street from the Farragut West metro station and 1 block away from Farragut North. Full disclosure, I haven't been there yet. I was going to go tonight but ended up having another obligation but if you go, let me know how you like it. I will update this post when I finally do go.

The Happiest of Hours: McCormick & Schmick
I love a good dive bar but sometimes you want to get dressed up and be a little fancy. If you're looking for a happy hour with a more upscale atmosphere without breaking the bank, McCormick & Schmick's Seafood and Steaks is where you want to go. And since there are multiple locations in the city, it's not hard to find one.
Monday through Saturday from 4pm-7pm and Sunday from 4pm-closing, McCormick & Schmick's provides great deals on both food and drinks. During the aforementioned times, they have bar food items available for $3-$9 and drinks range from $4-$7. My bill there rarely goes above $10 including tax.
McCormick & Schmick's would be a great option for a first date. The atmosphere is quiet, the decor is classy, and the staff is very professional. They have flat screens above the bar so even if you go alone you'll still be entertained. So fellas, throw on a button shirt and some slacks; ladies, test out those new heels you need to break in and have a great time.

Frugal food alert: Impala Cantina y Taqueria
If you have a craving for tacos and are cash poor but don't want to subject yourself to a certain taco chain's not so meaty meat, head over to Impala's on H street. That's where a friend of mine celebrated her birthday this past Saturday. Their tacos are hearty, tasty, and made fresh with a variety of fillings to choose from and their taco shells are all made in-house. While deciding what you want to eat they offer complimentary chips and salsa. And the prices are so reasonable! The most expensive taco on the menu is a grand total of $4 and on Tuesdays, tacos are discounted by $1. They have plenty of other items on the menu but the focus of this post is the tacos.
I ordered 3 tacos: the carne asada, the braised pork, and the chorizo. All of them were delicious and super filling; I started feeling full after the second one. It may not be as cheap as Baco Tell, but the food quality for the price is awesome. And I want you to love you enough to eat real food, lol. I took a shot of the taco portion of the menu:
As you can see, there's something on there for everybody, meat eater and non meat eater alike. The atmosphere and decor are very laid back. It felt like I was sitting in someone's kitchen. The staff is super nice, engaging, and very accommodating.
If you want some tequila to go with your taco, they've got you. Their tequila shots are standard prices (about $7) but the shots are about twice the size you're going to get anywhere else. I would definitely recommend this place if you're in the mood for authentic Mexican food and don't want to pay out the nose.
Impala is located at 1358 H St. NW. The X2 bus will drop you right in front of it. It's right in the middle of all the H St. activity so you can eat and go party or vice versa. Happy eating!

More Bang for your Brunch: The Looking Glass Lounge
I love brunch. It puts together 2 things I really like: breakfast foods
and cocktails. A bottomless brunch is definitely my idea of a good time
so I'm glad I live in an area of the city where I can indulge my love
of brunch while not emptying my wallet.
Looking Glass Lounge has been a Petworth/Columbia Heights neighborhood staple for some time. It's got a super relaxed atmosphere, the prices are reasonable and it's located by plenty of public transportation. They have a bottomless brunch option that will please the budget bruncher. For $10 and the purchase of a brunch entree, you get unlimited mimosas or bloody marys. And these drinks are BIG:
Brunch entrees have generous portions (make sure you're ready to EAT) and run about $10 a piece. They have plenty of wall decor inside to keep your eyes entertained as well as a nice back patio if you want some air. Looking Glass Lounge is located at 3634 Georgia Ave NW, just two doors up from DC Reynolds. Happy brunching!

More Bang for your Brunch: DC Reynolds
It's Saturday morning. You're hungry but you haven't gone grocery shopping yet. You'd also like to get the day's shenanigans started early so you're in search of a bottomless brunch.
I already told you about DC Reynolds' amazing happy hour specials but I'm also a fan of their brunch situation. From 11am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday for a flat cost of $10, you can get bottomless mimosas with the purchase of a brunch entree (which is never more than $13). They've got brunch favorites like scrambled eggs bacon and as well as unique items like a braised pork benedict.
DC Reynolds is located at 3628 Georgia Ave NW. Please check my previous post for further details. Enjoy!

Frugal food alert: Z-Burger
Can't drink all that liquor without a little something to soak it up with right? On December 15th, Z-Burger's SW location will be selling their delicious burgers for $2. Toppings like cheese and bacon are extra but it's still a GREAT deal. Veggie and turkey burgers will be available for $4. They will be doing the same thing on December 22nd at their Arlington location and again on December 29th at their Columbia Heights location. Enjoy!

Open Bar Alert x2*: Bar 7, The Gryphon
*The asterisk in the title is because the second open bar is for ladies only. Sorry gentlemen.*
Happy Direct Deposit Day! You made it through the week and you deserve to celebrate. Even with the money in the account, you've still got bills so you're looking to maximize your fun while minimizing cost. Welcome to Bar 7. Every Friday Bar 7 has open bar from 5pm-6pm and then goes in to happy hour specials. It's the perfect spot for pre-gaming for the night or you can just stay there and enjoy the rest of the evening. It's a popular spot and gets pretty active after happy hour is over. The open bar is usually limited to a single type of liquor for the hour. One Friday it was open bar for any Absolut drinks, another Friday it was Dusse. The server staff is really nice and fellas, the female bartenders are easy on the eyes, lol. There's also a DJ playing all the current RnB/hip hop favorites while you sip. Bar 7 is located at 1015 1/2 7th St NW, 1 block down from the Mt. Vernon metro station and a few blocks from Chinatown.
***
Ladies, ladies, ladies! The open bar fun doesn't stop for you on Fridays! From 10pm-11pm, The Gryphon has a champagne open bar. I love the decor of The Gryphon. The couches are luxurious, there's plenty of space, and the wait staff is awesome. Friday nights, they play Top 40 hits and the crowd is a good mix of everyone and it tends to get pretty crowded. You have to register for the open bar before hand and you can do that with a simple Google search for "Gryphon champagne open bar". The great thing about their RSVP system is once you sign up on Eventbrite, they automatically renew it every week. The Gryphon's address is 1337 Connecticut Ave NW, just a few minutes walk from the Dupont Circle Metro.
Enjoy the weekend!

Open Bar Alert: The Huxley
Hooray! It's Thursday! You can see the weekend on the horizon. You're ready to get the weekend shenanigans started early...but direct deposit doesn't hit until Friday. No worries; The Huxley has you covered with open bar from 10pm-11pm. Easily accessible from the Farragut North metro stop, The Huxley is located at 1730 M St. NW. The Huxley isn't a place that I go to frequently...I've actually only been there once but the music was cool and there was plenty of seating. After checking the website, I found out they also have open bar for the ladies on Fridays and Saturdays from 10-11 if you register online here: http://www.huxleydc.com/openbar/.
Go get your Thirsty Thursday on and let me know how you like it.

Liquor launch party at Heist tonight
Ciroc is launching the apple flavor of their line of vodka tonight at Heist's Wednesday night hip hop party. I can't guarantee it but if you know like I know, these launches usually entail plenty of free liquor tasting. Hadn't planned on going out tonight but I may head over there and see what it's about. I've been to Heist's Wednesday night before. No cover and the decor is pretty snazzy (I like that word, I don't know why). They have tvs in the wall playing footage of actual heists on a loop...kinda cool, lol. If you're a hip hop music fan, this party's for you. Heist is located at 1802 Jefferson Place NW, around the corner from STK and next to the Shake Shack.

Open Bar Alert: Den of Thieves
I discovered this place fairly recently. While DC is generally teeming with nightlife, the beginning of the week generally gets short shrift. Den of Thieves helps to fill this void with a Tuesday night shindig and provides further incentive for an early in the week excursion by having open bar for the first hour (9pm-10pm). They have great music and the atmosphere is swanky. They keep the lighting low and it feels like you're hidden away. It's a great low key night option...especially if you know you need to be up for work at the crack of dawn. Den of Thieves is located in the heart of the U Street corridor at 2005 14th st NW (next to Marvin's). Street parking is available and it's 1 block away from the U Street/Cardozo Metro station. The 14th street line of buses also passes right in front of it.

The Happiest of Hours: DC Reynolds
Monday sucks. It's the first day of the work week and the farthest you can be from Friday. You probably blew your budget over the weekend and have residual hangover from Sunday Funday. So where can you go to take the edge off at the end of the day and not totally demolish your bank account? The answer is DC Reynolds. Not just Monday but every day minus Sunday from 5pm-9pm, they have a Buy One Get One Free happy hour. Drinks are super cheap (my usual is about $6) and they make them really strong. Basically for less than $10 you can shed the day's stresses. Located at 3628 Georgia Ave. NW, DC Reynolds is conveniently across the street from the Georgia Ave/Petworth Metro station and also where you can catch a multitude of buses. The food is pretty good too. It's southern inspired cuisine with the usual bar food favorites. They have a dope back patio and decent sized flat-screens if you want to watch a game. If you've been there already or go in the future, let me know what you thought of it.

Welcome!
Living in DC can be expensive, even if you make a good salary. But having been on both sides of Super Broke and Make it Rain status, I've been able to find ways to have a grand time in the city without having to shell out a great deal of money. I would say the key to finding these hookups is being willing to head out of the house early. The specials are provided because they want bodies in the venue. I hope you'll enjoy and take advantage of the little gems I've found; and please feel free to comment and ask questions. Enjoy!
